Xiaomi’s new smartphone Redmi 5 arrives in India

Xiaomi launches its yet another smartphone in India, 3 months after its launch in China. The phone is none other than the mighty Redmi 5. Redmi 5 is the upgrade for its predecessor Redmi 4, which was the 2nd best-selling smartphone in the Indian market next to Redmi Note 4 in 2017. Xiaomi had recently launched Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro about which I wrote in my previous blog. Now, it’s high time for Xiaomi to capture the Indian market for yet another year. Xiaomi mostly sells its products in Flash Sales through online portals. Then the uphill task for the buyers is to crack the mystery of the Flash Sales. These Flash Sales remind me of the recent rush for Jio sim cards or the queues in front of banks during the demonetization. Now, let us come to the Redmi 5 again.

Redmi 5 looks like a premium smartphone without cutting your pocket much. It is Metal body design and feels solid when taken in hand. Xiaomi has been introducing 18:9 aspect ratio LED screens in their most phones these days. So, now it’s turn for Redmi 5. Redmi 5 gets a 5.7 inch 18:9 aspect ratio HD+ display with the new, energy efficient Octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset. It comes with 12MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera. Both the rear and front cameras have LED Flash. So, you can have a Selfie shoot even in the dark. Redmi 5 supports 4G-LTE and has a hybrid Dual-SIM slot, which means you can either use 1 Micro-SIM+Micro-SD Card or 1 Micro-SIM+1 Nano-SIM Card. These were some of the specifications to give you an idea about the phone Redmi 5 if you aren’t already aware of it. I think it is always easy to understand in the form of tables. I am going to take in this blog, some of the questions that arise in your mind if you are planning to buy this phone Redmi 5.

Why should you buy this phone?

In my opinion, you have to first decide what type of user you are. If you do basic usage and gaming, you can go for this phone. It has decent and reliable Snapdragon processor and will not lag at all. It also has a MIUI9 interface which will offer you a lot more features than any other user interface. But if you are planning to play heavy games on your phone, then spend some more money and buy Redmi Note 5.

Which RAM & Storage version should you pick?

If I had to pick, I would go for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version straight away. As 2GB RAM and 16GB storage version comes for ₹7999 and on spending just ₹1000 more, you get the 3GB RAM and 32 storage version which is a great deal. But again if you are a very basic user, you can always go for the cheaper 2GB RAM and 16GB storage version. And if you are planning to buy the 3rd version which is 4GB RAM & 64GB storage which is available for ₹10999, then go for Redmi Note 5. Redmi Note 5 has a better processor, camera and is undoubtedly a superior phone to Redmi 5.
